Trauma Center Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY) is an evidence-based practice designed to support those living with PTSD/ Complex Trauma and is grounded in trauma theory, attachment theory, neuroscience, and hatha yoga. This translates into each session through invitational language, choice-making, interoception (felt sense), non-coercion, and shared authentic experience. TCTSY can also be described as relaxation and movement, somatic body-based practice, or yoga for you.
A trauma-informed yoga practice is able to recognise and alleviate potentially triggering environmental and physiological episodes, while still offering the psychological and physical benefits that typical yoga practice provides. Sessions are an integration of breathing techniques, specific movements, and contemplative practice.
The facilitated spaces focus on relationship building, trust, autonomy, power sharing, and authentic experiences, and people are guided to make choices about what they want. This is offered through both group and individual sessions.
